Edition 1.1 - January 2020

Good afternoon,

I hope that everyone is doing well as we get into the second week of our break. A few updates from us in the band department at Clearview. As always we are so proud of the music that our students make every single day, and we are looking forward to great things in the spring. I apologize for the length of the notes below, but I wanted to make sure to share everything. As always we keep our website updated with all information and calendars, please feel free to visit viewband.org for all the information.

Guest Conductors/Artists: The bands will be joined by numerous guest artists in the winter and spring in the lead up to the spring performances. Currently we have five guests lined up, with the potential for more as the semester progresses. We are extremely fortunate to have these opportunities to share our music making with such great educators and artists.

• Dr. Lauren Reynolds (University of Delaware) – January 13th

• Dr. Trish Cornett (Temple University) – January 24th

• Dr. Wes Broadnax (University of Northern Colorado) – February 19th & 20th

• Mr. Bruce Yurko (Rowan University) – Dates TBD

• Ms. Mirella Gable (Oklahoma City Symphony Orchestra) – Dates TBD

Two notes on the above. First, for Dr. Cornett’s visit in January we have been granted the opportunity for students to have two class periods to work with our guest conductor by our administration. As such, the Wind Ensemble will rehearse 4th & 5th period and the Wind Symphony 6th & 7th period. Students will be excused from the class period they are missing, with the caveat they are responsible for any work and tests they would be missing, and time will be given in both 4th and 7th period for students to eat lunch if they miss their scheduled time. Passes as well as more details will be provided for students in class.

Second, all rehearsals are open to anyone that would like to visit. All we ask is that anyone wishing to stop by for any of these dates, please contact Mr. Wiernusz as soon as possible so we can make sure the people at the front desk are aware.

Ensemble Auditions: We will have auditions and placements for ensembles for the 2020-2021 School Year later in the spring. We will have more information about the exact procedures and requirements, but all audition materials will be available in hard copy in the band room as well as online through viewband.org/ensemble-auditions. If you have any questions please see Mr. Wiernusz, Mr. DeLoach, or Mr. Maioriello.

Performances: The spring semester is always an exciting and busy time for everyone, and we in the band area are no different. Below is an updated list of performances, please note that the percussion concert got moved from April to June.

• Clearview Night of Jazz (Middle School MPR) – February 29th (7pm) – Middle School & High School Jazz Bands

• SJBODA Region III Band Festival (Rowan University) – March 4th (During Morning) -- Wind Ensemble & Wind Symphony

• New Jersey State Band Gala (TCNJ) – May 3rd (Tentative, Time TBD) – Ensembles Must Qualify through Region Band Festival

• Spring Bands Concert (High School Theatre) – May 12th (7pm)

• Day of Remembrance (High School Theatre) – May 22nd (10:30am) – Wind Ensemble Only

• Spring Percussion Concert (High School Theatre) – June 2nd (7pm)

• Graduation Ceremony, Class of 2020 (Stadium) – June 16th (6pm, 5pm Report)
