Edition 1.3 - Aprl 2020
I hope that everyone is doing well and staying safe. A few updates from the band program:
The Coffee House, originally scheduled for Saturday April 4th, is being postponed. Look for a message from Mr. McInnis and myself sometime soon for more details.
In-person Wind Ensemble auditions for the 2020-2021 school year are also going to be postponed. I am going to do everything in my power to hear the auditions in person when we return to school. However, if that does not look possible we will move to an online platform where students will submit recordings. More details will be available if and when we have to go that route.
A quick reminder for students who are registering for classes for the 2020-21 school year within the next month, which should be many of the returning students. When you do preliminary registration you need to have a band class on their schedule, but it does not matter until the summer which class is listed. We have a good relationship with the guidance department and during the late spring/early summer we submit three lists, one for each band, as to who is supposed to be in what band. Students will know before the end of the school year to which band they will belong. What is critical in the short term is that students have a band class listed on their preliminary schedule.
Any student interested in taking more than one band class for the next school year should talk with Mr. Wiernusz or Mr. DeLoach before registering for classes. Students may only register for a second band at a lower level than the one they are placed.
Listed below are a general reminder as to the classes available to students, if you have any questions or requests, please contact Mr. Wiernusz, Mr. DeLoach, or Mr. Maioriello.
Wind Ensemble – Audition required (materials available at viewband.org/ensemble-auditions). All students, regardless of past ensemble placement, are required to complete an audition. Students will be placed in the ensemble based on audition as well as past performance in band classes and recommendation from teachers. Mr. Wiernusz will handle Wind Ensemble and Mr. Maioriello will handle percussion.
Wind Symphony – Audition recommended but not required. Students will be placed based on past performance in band classes and recommendation from teachers.
Symphonic Band – No audition required, only prerequisite is past participation in band classes.
