Mr. Tyler Wiernusz

Instrumental Music Teacher & Director of Bands

Tyler Wiernusz is currently the instrumental music teacher and director of bands at Clearview Regional High School in Mullica Hill, NJ. At Clearview, he organizes and instructs all curricular instrumental ensembles at the high school, teaches brass pedagogy throughout the district, and serves the director of the marching band. Under his guidance the wind ensemble qualified for the New Jersey State Band Gala, as well as being a featured performer at the New Jersey State Music Educators Association. The Marching Band has continued their run of Top 10 finishes at the Atlantic Coast Championships, in addition to their full schedule of community and scholastic events.

He received a Master’s Degree in Music Education from Michigan State University and his Bachelor of Music Degree in Music Education major with a concentration in Tuba from the University of Delaware. Tyler held the position of brass technician at the Pioneer Drum and Bugle Corps (DCI), brass caption head with the Windsor Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps (DCA), and music staff member at InMotion Winds (WGI), in addition to instructing various scholastic marching band positions across the country as a brass specialist and program consultant. He continues to write and design shows in the marching arts, including most recently at Clearview Regional High School (NJ) and South Lakes High School (VA).

Tyler is active as a freelance tuba player around the Mid-Atlantic region. He has performed with numerous brass bands in the North American Brass Band Association (NABBA), including most recently serving as Solo B-flat Bass with the Atlantic Brass Band (NJ) for their 2017 NABBA Championship Section and U.S. Open victories as well as the Rockville Brass Band (MD) - 2017 NABBA Second Section Champions. He was a member of the Philadelphia Wind Symphony for the 2013 and 2014 seasons, and actively performed with the Brass Act of Delmarva during this time.

Tyler was fortune enough to march three summers with various drum and bugle corps, including his age-out in the summer of 2011 with the Blue Stars Drum and Bugle Corps, a finalist corps in Drum Corps International's (DCI) World Class. He can be heard on the Newberry Victorian Cornet Band's album, "Thomas Coats: The Father of Band Music in America," and the Atlantic Brass Band's Album "Metropolis."

Gerry DeLoach is currently in his 24th year as a public school instrumental music teacher.  Mr. Gerry DeLoach was raised in a musical household.  Gerry's father, Dr. Leon DeLoach, was a public school music teacher for 37 years in Triton HS, Merchantville HS, and Cinnaminson HS.  Dr. Leon DeLoach was also a professional opera singer and member of the Philadelphia Opera Chorus.   Gerry's brother, Lee DeLoach, is also a Music teacher in Audubon Junior/Senior High School in Audubon NJ. 

During his first four years of teaching, Gerry taught in the School District of Haverford Township in Haverford, PA, where he directed the Elementary School Bands as well as directing the High School Jazz Ensemble.  Gerry came to Clearview Regional Middle School in the fall of 1997.  At Clearview, Gerry directs the Middle School Concert Bands as well as assisting with the High School Concert Bands.  In addition to the Concert Bands, Gerry teaches a variety of Chamber Ensembles as well as the Middle School and High School Jazz Bands.  Gerry's teaching experience also includes a semester at Temple University where he directed one of the small jazz ensembles.  In addition to this ensemble, Gerry was a clinician at Temple University's High School Jazz Band Festival in 1999.  At this festival, Gerry gave clinics on saxophone performance and jazz improvisation.  In 1997 Gerry was nominated to Who's Who of American Teachers.  In November of 2002, Gerry presented a session at the NJEA Convention in Atlantic City titled "Things they didn't teach you in College".  This clinic/session was geared to first year music teachers in NJ.  In March of 2003, Gerry gave a clinic at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia on saxophone performance and improvisation.  Additionally, in March of 2005, Gerry traveled to Roberts Wesleyan College in Rochester, NY, to perform and present at the Schoenhals Symposium.  This Symposium highlighted the connection between music and Christian beliefs.

In addition to Gerry's public school teaching, he is also a teacher at Rowan University where he teaches Clarinet and Saxophone Methods classes to Music Education Majors. 

 

Gerry is also an Elder at the Body of Christ Serving South Jersey Church where he plays piano and leads the music during the service.

 

Gerry is a 1993 graduate of Temple University where he earned a B.M. in Music Education with a concentration in Jazz Studies.  While at Temple, Gerry studied saxophone and jazz improvisation with Larry McKenna.  When Gerry graduated from Temple he received the Essie Barron Memorial Award for outstanding achievement and unusual promise in the field of music.  Gerry received his Master of Music degree from Rowan University in the Spring of 2002.  While at Rowan University Gerry recorded his first solo jazz CD titled, "On the Trail".  Other teachers that Gerry has studied with include John Cooper, Marshall Taylor, Denis DiBlasio, Chris Potter, and Chuck Israels.  Gerry has also taken graduate classes in Jazz Arranging and Jazz Improvisation at The University of Memphis in Memphis, Tennessee and Villanova University in Villanova, Pennsylvania.  

As a professional saxophone player in the Philadelphia area, Gerry plays with various Wedding Bands, Jazz Big Bands, Rock Bands, and small Jazz Groups as well as doing some studio work.  He has recorded with local artists Susan Werner, Mike Ianeri, George Genna, Billy Jones, and Craig Thomas.  Artists that he has performed with include Grover Washington Jr., Larry McKenna, Chuck Israels, John Swana, and Denis DiBlasio. 

Gerry resides in Glassboro, NJ with his wonderful wife Doreen, son Lukas and daughter Lily.  Gerry treasures his family and he sees them as examples of God's love and provision.  Gerry's extended family includes all of his students past and present.
